Why is Android considered to be the future of Microsoft?

A number of experts are considering Android to be the future of Microsoft. It’s not that they are making news out of air or are just trying to make it to the headlines. There are solid and valid reasons behind their opinions. Let us discuss them.

Microsoft has already made significant profit from Android

That Microsoft is making from AD patents is already established and what is more amazing is the amount of money they are making. However, MS are still not complacent and are looking forward to make more out of Android. This is an indicator of the fact that the future of the software giant is very much dependant on Android.

Android already has a significant share of market

AD today has a significant share in the world market, which is ostensibly seems to be irreversible. However, a closer look and an inspection of that share would reveal that it’s not Google or Samsung that have made up most of the AD’s profits. It is Apple, which has done so. In fact, Apple has a whopping 87 percent of market share in terms of profit in the smart phone market. However, trends very much show that Microsoft is gradually making inroads into the AD phone market. Once that happens, the scenario is likely to be changed. Trends very much show that in the days to come, it will be MS, which will be enjoying the lion’s share of the AD market. From that point of view, it will be AD that is poised to determine the future of MS.

The MS-Android marriage has certain unique advantages

The most significant selling point that can be discussed here is that the software services of Microsoft – viz. OneDrive, Outlook, Office 365 etc. are so designed to add a lot of value so far as AD based devices are concerned. Naturally, this in the days to come is likely to increase the interest of the users by many folds. This will in turn increase the sale of these AD based devices, directly affecting the revenue earning of MS in a big way! Again, this will lure the MS to come up with more value added services to attract more users, making its presence in the software market more powerful than ever. From this, AD and MS both are going to gain at the end of the day and that is quite obvious.

Lesser cost of development

By going with Android, MS is able to make a significant amount of savings. While there is a need to invest about $100 million in developing Windows based phone, the amount will significantly come down once they go with AD and put more emphasis on making devices that will be compatible with AD as well. Hence, this clearly implies that the mobile destiny of MS clearly depends upon Android. This is a smart move from Microsoft, which is a clear deviation from its earlier stand of investing a lesser amount and relying fully on Google, which was not a very smart and effective idea.

More apps – which means more developers

Currently AD based phones are equipped with more apps than their Windows based counterparts. As per the experts, it seems likely that MS will subsequently let the AD based apps run on their phones, rather than running their apps on Android based devices. This will help the windows phones to co-exist with AD phones, though even then, its very existence as well as development will to a large extent depend upon the extent of headway Android makes.

Though it is quite unlikely that Microsoft will fully submit to Android or will lose its own identity, their approach will surely need to take a new turn, then come in terms with Android if they are to survive this onslaught.
